"Making a difference, one child at a time."
Welcome! My name is Jessica Keenan and I teach second grade at Holy Family School. Since I was young, it has always been my passion to become a teacher. In the spring of 2010, I graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Education 1-6. Shortly after graduating, I pursued my Master’s Degree at Touro College where I graduated with a degree in Education and Special Education 1-6. I went on to further my education by completing an extension in Early Childhood Education and Special Education Birth-6.
In the fall of 2010, I began my career working at Holy Family School as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant. In 2011 and 2012, I worked as a special education teacher’s aide in both first and second grade inclusion classrooms in the Island Trees School District. In 2013, I returned to Holy Family School as a full-time classroom teacher. I have taught both first and second grade. Teaching at Holy Family School is truly an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
In 2016, I happily married my husband, Michael. We have two beautiful children, Parker and Olivia, who are the light of our lives and bring us so much joy each and everyday. Outside of the classroom, a few of my favorite things to do are going to the beach, crafting, shopping, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends.
Favorite Saint?
My favorite saint is Saint Veronica. I chose Saint Veronica as my Confirmation name. She is the patron saint of laundry workers and photographers. She is known as the kind woman who offered Jesus her cloth to wipe his face when he was carrying the cross. I admire her loving and caring actions to help others.

What can students look forward to when they join your class?
Second Grade is an exciting year! Students prepare to receive two special sacraments, the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. They work to become more independent. They are introduced to cursive handwriting. They become stronger readers and can write paragraphs that include topic sentences, details, and conclusions. Second graders investigate many things from the inside of their classroom and beyond. They discuss different types of communities and the world around them. Students learn to add and subtract with ease. Second graders are flourishing with knowledge.
