"Making a difference, one child at a time."
Hello, my name is Miss Lyons! It is my ninth year at Holy Family School and I am loving every minute of it! I have taught Nursery, First Grade, Third Grade, Fourth Grade, and currently teaching Fifth and Sixth grade social studies and Fifth grade religion.
Catholic education is all I have ever known. I started my Catholic education by attending Our Lady of Mercy School in Hicksville, where I spent 10 great years. From there, I attended Holy Trinity High School, for four amazing years. Then, I attended Molloy College in Rockville Centre where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Childhood and Special Education. I then returned to Molloy College to receive my Master’s Degree in Special Education. Needless to say Catholic Education has played and continues to play an important part in my life and it has made me the person I am today. I believe that with the right start anything is possible!
In my free time, I enjoy cooking, baking, and spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy going to Disney World!
My favorite saint is Saint Rose of Lima. I chose Rose as my Confirmation name. She is the patron saint of Latin America and the Philippines.
My favorite quote is “Laughter is timeless, Imagination has no age, And Dreams are forever” said by Walt Disney.
My favorite book is Charlotteś Web by E.B. White.
What can students look forward to when they join your class?
Every year, I look forward to meeting a new group of students, whether they are 3 year
olds or 12 year olds, I thrive to make everyone feel welcome. My classroom is a safe place for all students to make mistakes and learn from them. Students learn of the power of yet. It is never, we cannot do something, it is always I cannot complete or understand the topic yet. In fifth grade, we will be learning about history and the geography of the Americas. In sixth grade students will learn about the ancient civilizations. We will be taking a trip back in time to learn about how the world was like when it first began. Throughout the year we will be completing many different projects. Aside from learning, fifth grade is the first year where students will be able to change classes and learn from different teachers. Students will learn organizational skills, responsibility, and social skills.
Message to Parents
Along with creating relationships with my students, I look forward to working with their parents or guardians. I believe that it is important to work together with parents to help their child succeed. Throughout the year, parents can communicate with me through email and through phone calls. I use the Remind App to communicate with parents reminders about upcoming projects, tests, quizzes, or other important messages. I am very grateful for the parents and guardians that I work with each year and how they entrust me in teaching their child and keeping them safe everyday.
