"Making a difference, one child at a time."
Hello, my name is Mr. Shaughnessy. This is my first year teaching at Holy Family School. Prior to starting here I had been teaching Health Education for the Diocese of Rockville Centre since 2019. I am incredibly excited to join the Holy Family community as the Physical Education teacher.
As a physical educator my goal is to ensure that my students are properly prepared with the skills necessary to lead a successful and happy life that includes the ability to attain and maintain a high level of fitness and health throughout their lifetime. Physical Education is more than that though, the importance of sportsmanship, “fair play”, respect for others and equipment, as well as motivation and responsibility are key areas of focus that I plan to emphasize throughout my curriculum. The value I place in these physical and affective domains serve as the foundation for my expectations of my students.
In 2015, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education degree at SUNY Cortland for Physical Education. In 2022, I completed my Master of Science in Education at SUNY Brockport for Health Education.
What can students look forward to when they join your class?
Physical Education classes will be designed to get students active and moving, most units will consist of time spent learning new skills, practicing those skills, and lastly putting those skills to use in exciting games and activities. Classes follow a similar layout each day that starts with getting into their spots for attendence, warm-ups, then skills review/new skills introduced, instant activity/skill practice or gameplay.
Message to Parents
For my classes I would rank student safety as my top priority, followed by providing my students with a strong education and finally, having fun. My expectations for all my students are achievable and place an emphasis on respect, humility, and communication. If you have any questions or concerns please send an e-mail, I am happy to help answer them.
